9th and 12th grade students pick up schedules Wed Aug 15 9-3.

10th and 11th grade students pick up schedules Thurs Aug 16 9-3.

Wednesday and Thursday are MAZE days, a day for both parents and students to navigate the different twists and turns to prepare for the first day of school.

Come to the Event Center to pick up your schedule, you can also order yearbooks, purchase PE clothes and student planners and join ASB to receive discounted admission to school events.

All 9th grade students must report to the Old Gym on Friday August 17 at 8:00am. Dismissal time is 12:00pm.

The official first day of school for all students is Thursday August 23.

Info & FAQ’s for NMHS Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2018


**Senior Breakfast & Slideshow: Thursday, June 14th, 2018, 9:00 am – 10:30 am This is for ALL seniors and is FREE, and sponsored by PTSA and your parents! The annual Senior Slideshow & video is brought to you by MCA Seniors.

Michael Manning of Herff Jones ([email protected]) will be at the senior breakfast to help with any cap & gown or graduation product needs.


**Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal Thursday, June 14th, 2018, 10:30 a.m. – Noon. The rehearsal is immediately following the Senior Breakfast in the Old Gym. We require that all graduating seniors attend so they know where they will line up, etc.We process out to the field and run through the beginning of the ceremony.


  1. When should students arrive to the Old Gym on Graduation morning? Students should be in Old Gym before 8AM!

Graduates should arrive at the Old Gym on Saturday, June 16th between 7:45 a.m. & 8:00 a.m.. At that time they will be searched as they enter the gym for any distracting items that could detract from our dignified ceremony and any inappropriate items will be confiscated. Cell phones  and sunglasses are okay.

We take attendance and if you are late, you may miss the Graduation!


  1. When does the parking lot open?

The parking lot will open at approximately 7:00 a.m., after the Police have conducted their safety search.


  1. What time do the stadium gates open?

The gates to the stadium will open before 8:00 am


  1. Where should we park?

Please park in the parking lots on campus in the student and staff parking lots or at the mall, but away from the small businesses to avoid getting towed.  The Newark Police Department notifies the surrounding businesses of the graduation date so their business in not impacted.  The old 24 Hour Fitness lot and old Toys R Us lots are generally open to use. However, parking in these lots are at your own risk.


Please park in designated parking spaces only – not along fences or along curbs, red zones, fire lanes, or handicapped spaces unless authorized. All California Vehicle Code laws are enforced by Newark PD on the NMHS campus (per CVC §21113(a)(1) and CVC §21113(a)(2)(C).  Your car may be cited or towed as we will be unable to locate you.  Large emergency vehicles must be able to maneuver through our parking lot.


Handicapped Parking will be on the blacktop near the entrance to the stadium.  This area will be reserved for vehicles displaying the appropriate handicapped authorization or the VIP Pass.


  1. Is tobacco use or marijuana allowed at the stadium or on campus?

Per California law, the use of tobacco on campus or possession/use of marijuana on or within 1000 feet of a public school is a crime.


  1. Is there a fee or tickets required to enter?

No, no fee and no tickets are required at our graduation as we open up both sides of the bleachers to accommodate everybody.


  1. Is there an area for handicapped and the elderly who cannot climb the bleachers?

Yes. Handicapped/VIP seating will be on the field. No reservation is required for this. Monitors at the gate will determine who is allowed to enter, and each person who needs assistance may have one attendant with them.


  1. Is there a limit to the number of family members a student may bring?

Seating is on a first come, first served basis. No limit, however, you may not block off seats for people who have not yet arrived. Plan to arrive together if you wish to sit together.


  1. When does the Graduation Ceremony begin?

The Graduation Ceremony will begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp.


  1. How long is the Graduation Ceremony?

The ceremony will last one hour and a half. 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.


  1. When are we allowed on the field?

Once the “Celebration” music begins at the end of the ceremony, family members and guests will be allowed  onto the field to find their graduate. This is at approximately 10:30 a.m.


  1. Is there a dress code for graduation?

All attire should be school appropriate. Girls should avoid spike heels as they will sink into the grass. Students will be asked to enter the Old Gym with their gown in one hand and their cap in the other so that we can confirm that there are no dress code violations, inappropriately decorated caps, or inappropriate items brought in.


Any inappropriate items that are brought to the graduation will be confiscated. (beach balls, air horns, etc.) Likewise, if students have decorated their caps in a manner deemed  inappropriate for our dignified Graduation, they will be taken away and the student will need to purchase a new cap for the ceremony. Students will be billed for a new cap.


  1. What are weather considerations?

We are going to do this rain or shine. Bring hats and sunglasses and sunscreen!


  1. What is not allowed at graduation?

Any illegal substances, noise makers, air horns, alcohol, etc.


  1. Is food allowed?

Music Boosters will be selling water and donuts.


  1. Can we bring balloons?

We encourage people to NOT bring balloon bouquets as they may block the view of people who are seated in the stands. People who still choose to bring them will be asked by the field manager to tie them to the back and side rails of the bleachers or along the field’s fenceline until the end of the ceremony.
