Covid 19 Principal Letter

March 12, 2020
Dear Newark Memorial High School Families, Students, and Staff,
In alignment with our Superintendent and in an abundance of caution to
help contain the spread of COVID-19 and keep our community safe, here is a
revised calendar of upcoming events at Newark Memorial for the next 21
school days. To be clear, we have no known cases within our
school or district and class during the day will continue as
usual. As such, these adjustments will be in effect from March 12 through
April 22.
 Multi-cultural week and HATS assemblies postponed to a later date TBD
 Coffee with the Principal Cancelled
 Crab Feed will continue as scheduled.
 SAT testing this weekend Per ETS will be cancelled
 ELAC and SSC will continue as scheduled.
 SBAC Testing will be postponed. The schedule for the week of 3/30-4/30
will go back to normal schedule. Attached are the new dates and times for
the SBAC.
 ALL Fieldtrips are cancelled
 Performances
o Drama and music rehearsals Cancelled
o Productions to be postponed
I realize this news will be disappointing for many, but we are committed to
trying to reschedule events in as many cases as possible. This is a very fluid
and evolving situation, thus we may need to extend these guidelines beyond
spring break. I will keep you updated. These decisions were based on the
recommendations from the Alameda Public Health Department.
Thank you for your patience, concern, and understanding as we address this
issue together as educators and community partners.
Thank you,
Olivia Rangel
Principal Newark Memorial High School
