NUSD Presents a Parent Education Evening and Film Screening of

ANGST: RAISING AWARENESS AROUND ANXIETY

Thursday, March 14, 6:30-8:30pm
Newark Junior High School

 

Newark Unified School District is hosting a special free screening of the documentary Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety to open up a dialogue between local families, community leaders and experts. The event will feature a viewing of the 55-minute film, followed by a question and answer discussion, led by Newark Unified staff. The documentary is recommended for children 10 and up with a parent or guardian.

El evento contará con la proyección de la película de 55 minutos seguida por una sesión de preguntas dirigida por el personal de Newark. Cell Phone and Electronic Devices

Per our principal, Dr. Bernard, via P.26 of the 2018-19 Student and Parent/Guardian Handbook…

Cell Phones and Other Electronic Signaling Devices
Use of a cellular/digital telephone, pager or other mobile communications device during instructional time is prohibited. Such devices shall be turned off in class, except when being used for a valid instructional or other school-related purpose as determined by the teacher or other district employee, and at any other time as directed by district employee. Any device with camera, video, or voice recording function shall not be used in any manner which infringes on the privacy rights of a person. (NUSD BP 5131 Conduct)

When a student uses any prohibited device, or uses a permitted device in any unethical or illegal activity, a district employee may confiscate the device. The employee shall store the item in a secure manner until an appropriate time . Students who violate district or school rules and regulations may be subject to discipline or loss of privileges in accordance with Board policy and administrative regulation, with notification to local law enforcement as appropriate . (NUSD BP 5131 Conduct)

2019 California Healthy Kids Survey is open!

Newark Unified is participating in the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) this school year.

CHKS is an anonymous, confidential survey of school climate and safety, student wellness, and youth resiliency. It is administered to students at grades five, seven, nine, and eleven. It enables schools and communities to collect and analyze data regarding local youth health risks and behaviors, school connectedness, school climate, protective factors, and school violence.

REMINDER: January 24 LCAP Community Input Event

NUSD needs parent/guardian and community input as we develop our 2019-20 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).

The LCAP is an annually-revised plan that addresses how NUSD will meet the needs of our students in the coming year, with a special focus on students who are English learners, foster youth, and/or socio-economically disadvantaged.

You’re welcome to attend either the morning or evening session:
